| THE GREEN CHICKEN STORY |
|
The idea for Green Chicken was hatched in the spring of 2002. Tom Cheney, founder of Green Chicken, contacted his nephew, Sean Merrill of Merrill's Egg Farm in Emmett, Idaho to investigate the possibility of duplicating their composting operation in North Carolina. (North Carolina is the fourth largest poultry producer in the U.S.) After several months of investigation, Tom approached Dr. Don McIntyre, Regional Live Production Manager for Pilgrim's Pride Eastern Region, to find out the best way to obtain the required raw poultry litter for the planned composting operation. Dr. McIntyre introduced Tom to Steve Davis of Union Gypsum, Inc. Mr. Davis had the contracts for cleaning out 80% of the poultry grow houses for the Pilgrim's Pride Marshville complex and had plans to start a compost operation. Early analysis of Mr. Davis' compost indicated that it was not only a superb compost, but in fact, was a natural organic fertilizer. Green Chicken and Union Gypsum signed an exclusive supply agreement in late September 2002. Union Gypsum combines a unique recycled material with broiler litter to produce a high quality natural organic fertilizer. Through the winter of 2002/2003, Tom and Steve worked to perfect the product and composting processes. Patents have been filed for both the process and formula and are pending approval. Green Chicken is proud to launch Green Chicken Natural Organic Fertilizer in the Charlotte, NC market. . . . a SAFE, EFFECTIVE, and SMART alternative to synthetic fertilizers on the market today.
